Breginj
Slovenia
This small village in the Breginj Combe of Slovenia's Littoral region, Breginj sits close to the Italian border in mountain terrain and holds several historic churches for a settlement of its size. Earthquakes in May and September 1976 heavily damaged the village; only the church with its rectory and two farmsteads survived, now restored and designated as cultural monuments. A new settlement of prefabricated houses was built to the east of the old village after the disaster.
