Brovary

City in Kyiv Oblast sometimes called the "shoe capital of Ukraine" for its concentration of footwear manufacturers, Brovary sits just east of Kyiv and is the largest city in the Kyiv metropolitan area after the capital itself. First documented in 1628 and granted city status in 1956, it developed a substantial industrial base from the 1970s onward. The wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites, and Kyiv's cultural offerings are a short distance away.
