Calatañazor

Tiny fortified hilltop settlement in Soria, Castile and León, Calatañazor takes its name from the Arabic for "Castle of Vultures" and was the site of the 1002 Battle of Calatañazor — a valley below still called el valle de la sangre (the Valley of Blood). The surrounding area holds a nature reserve of Spanish juniper trees, some of the largest on the Iberian Peninsula, and the Fuentona de Muriel, a spring fed by an underground river that draws cave divers. Nearby Cueva Maja contains rock drawings around 4,000 years old.
