Campobasso

Blade-making has defined Campobasso since at least the 14th century, and the town remains known for its scissors and knives alongside local pears and scamorza cheese. Capital of Italy's Molise region, it sits in highland terrain between the Biferno and Fortore rivers, surrounded by the Sannio and Matese mountains. The historic centre holds churches spanning several centuries, including the 13th-century church of San Leonardo and the 15th-century Monforte Castle, and the town was recognised by Italy's Ministry of Cultural Heritage in 2018 for its historical significance.
