Cape Coast Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that served as a headquarters of the Royal African Company during the transatlantic slave trade, anchors this Ghanaian city on the Atlantic coast. Once the capital of the Gold Coast until 1877, Cape Coast also sits close to Kakum National Park and hosts the PANAFEST festival. The University of Cape Coast makes it an educational centre, and the Kotokuraba Market is the city's main commercial hub.
