Ghana's main Atlantic port city, Sekondi-Takoradi is a working industrial hub on the Western Region coast where fishing, cocoa processing, timber, and oil production define daily life. The twin cities grew from Dutch and English forts built in the 17th century, gained economic weight when a railway arrived in 1903 and a deepwater seaport in 1928, and merged in 1946. The harbour and its rail connections to Kumasi remain central to the city's character.
