This small provincial capital of Kampong Speu in central Cambodia sits close to mountains and within walking distance of water, with a central market surrounded by bicycle shops and little restaurants. The wider region places it near several UNESCO World Heritage sites. Mandarin-speaking locals can be found in some of the town's coffeeshops, and privately run schools and orphanages operated by organisations from Singapore and the Philippines give the town an international presence despite its modest size.
