Longvek
Cambodia
Longvek served as the capital of the Kingdom of Cambodia from 1529 to 1594, chosen by King Ang Chan I for its defensible position on the western bank of the Tonle Sap after the fall of Angkor. So synonymous with the country that early European traders and foreign travellers called it simply "Cambodia," the city was a post-Angkor centre of military power, scholarship, and trade with Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, and China.
