This small city in Chile's Araucanía region whose name means "Gathering Stone" in Mapudungun, Curacautín sits in a valley with views of three volcanoes — Tolhuaca, Lonquimay, and Llaima — and serves as a base for Conguillío and Tolhuaca National Parks and the Malleco and Malalcahuello-Nalcas National Reserves nearby. Historically a route used by the Pehuenche people crossing the Andes, the town lies northeast of Temuco in southern Chile.
