Melipeuco
Melipeuco · Chile
A compact Andean town in Chile's Araucanía Region, Melipeuco sits at the gateway to Conguillío National Park, which contains the Llaima volcano. To the south lies the Nevados de Sollipulli, an ice-filled volcanic caldera ringed by hot springs and geysers, with thermal waters reaching high temperatures even amid glacier blocks. The town's name derives from the Mapudungun for "meeting of four waters," and it was founded in 1981 as a base for the surrounding mountain and volcanic landscape.
