Elsterwerda
Germany
Tiny town in southwestern Brandenburg on the Black Elster river, Elsterwerda sits on the southern edge of the Niederlausitzer Heidelandschaft nature park. Once part of the Saxon electorate, it passed to Prussia after the 1815 Congress of Vienna and later spent decades within the East German district of Cottbus. Today it serves as a shared regional centre alongside Bad Liebenwerda, with metal industry as its main economic base.
