Filipstad
Sweden
Wasabröd, the world's largest crisp bread manufacturer, operates one of its two factories in this pocket-sized Swedish city in eastern Värmland, founded in 1611 by Charles IX and named after his son Duke Carl Philip. The town sits in a valley between two lakes, with the Skillerälven river winding through the centre past a statue of poet Nils Ferlin at the main square. A 1694 fire stripped Filipstad of its city privileges for over a century, though the title has long since been restored.
