Claimed since 1435 to be the smallest city in Spain, Frías is a medieval hill village in Burgos province rising above the river Ebro, where a castle and a 12th-century bridge dominate the water below. The Gothic church of San Vitores and the church of San Vicente anchor a compact historic centre whose buildings share walls in the medieval manner. A handful of cafés and restaurants serve the village, and scenic viewpoints over the Ebro valley are close at hand.
