Friedrichroda

A spa town at the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest in Thuringia, Friedrichroda has official recognition as both a health-climate resort and an air resort — a status shared by its incorporated district of Finsterbergen. The surrounding fir-clad hills offer scenic walking country, and the nearby Reinhardsbrunn estate, built from the ruins of a Benedictine monastery founded in 1085, adds a historic landmark to the area.
