Friemersheim
South Africa
This small agricultural village in the foothills of the Outeniqua Mountains, Friemersheim was founded in the early 19th century by a German missionary and takes its name from Reverend Johann Kretzen's German birthplace. Kretzen bought a farm called Gonnakraal for his sister, and in 1869 built a church and school there; a second church followed in 1884. The village sits within the Garden Route District, close to mountains and within reach of the wider region's UNESCO-listed landscapes.
