One of Poland's oldest towns, Głogów sits on the Oder River in Lower Silesia with a walkable centre of cafés, restaurants, and historic churches currently being rebuilt to their pre-war appearance after near-total destruction in the Second World War. Founded in the 10th century as a Piast defensive settlement, the town was later capital of a modest duchy and grew into one of the largest fortified towns in the region. Its rebuilt castle now houses a Historical and Archaeological Museum, and since 1984 the town has hosted the Głogów Jazz Festival.
