Georgetown
St. Helena
Georgetown is the tiny capital of Ascension Island, a remote British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic, set on the island's west coast where volcanic mountain terrain meets the sea. Named after King George III when Britain garrisoned the island in 1815, the town centres on St Mary's Church and the former Exiles Club, originally built as a Royal Marines barracks during Napoleon's exile to nearby Saint Helena.
