Guaramiranga
Brazil
This cool highland retreat in the Serra de Baturité hills of Ceará, Guaramiranga sits at around 865 metres and offers a temperate climate unusual for northeastern Brazil. The pocket-sized town hosts an annual Jazz & Blues Festival during Carnival and a flower festival in November, and is known for lush green hills and waterfalls in the surrounding protected area. It is also the birthplace of Fernando de Mendonça, founder of Brazil's National Institute for Space Research, and of former president José Linhares.
