Guardiagrele
Chieti · Italy
Poet Gabriele d'Annunzio called Guardiagrele "Abruzzo's terrace" for the sweeping views of the Maiella mountain it commands from its hilltop position in the province of Chieti. The town is one of the first places where the presentosa — a traditional Abruzzese gold jewel worn at celebrations — was made, and it hosts an annual artisan craft fair each August. A seat of the Maiella National Park and a member of the I Borghi più belli d'Italia list, it has a pocket-sized café-filled centre and several historic churches.
