A pocket-sized town in Saxony-Anhalt where part of the centre is built on an island in the Havel river, Havelberg sits directly on the water with cafés and restaurants in its compact core and scenic viewpoints in the surrounding area. Officially recognised as a health resort (Erholungsort), it lies in the Stendal district and has held town status since 1875.
