Neuruppin
Ostprignitz-Ruppin · Germany
Birthplace of the novelist Theodor Fontane (1819–1898), Neuruppin is a Brandenburg town on the water with a Neoclassical centre rebuilt after a fire in 1787 — earning it the reputation of being "the most Prussian of all Prussian towns." A garrison town since 1688, it carries the honorary title Fontanestadt in the writer's memory, and its walkable centre, lakeside setting, and strong visual character make it a rewarding stop in northern Brandenburg.
