Imlil
Al Haouz Province · Morocco
High in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, Imlil is the country's main base for trekking to Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. The village sits at the end of the paved road, making it the natural point to hire mountain guides and mules before heading up. A tiny cluster of cafés and restaurants serves the steady flow of trekkers, and the surrounding valleys offer scenic routes through traditional Berber communities. The area was also known historically for walnut, apple, and cherry production.
