Juva
Finland
Founded on 19 January 1442, Juva holds the distinction of being the oldest parish or municipality in Finland with a precisely known founding date — and from that single parish, much of eastern Finland's ecclesiastical map was eventually drawn, with places such as Savonlinna, Kuopio, and Iisalmi all separated from it over time. Set in South Savo, the small agricultural town sits among lakes, with Lake Jukajärvi near the centre and Lake Luonteri in the south forming part of the broader Lake Saimaa system.
