A Lancashire village on the A56 between Colne and Earby, Kelbrook has an unusual literary footnote: Elisabeth Beresford wrote much of The Wandering Wombles here in 1970, and Edward Woodward spent six weeks in the village in 1973 preparing for his role in The Wicker Man. Local customs include locking the church gates at weddings to demand money from the bride and groom, and racing ducks on Kelbrook Beck.
