Kyaikkami
Myanmar (Burma)
The Kyaikkami Yele Pagoda, built on ocean reef foundations just off the coast and reached by a corridor over the water, draws pilgrims and visitors to this small Mon State town in southeast Myanmar. Formerly known as Amherst under British rule, Kyaikkami sits on a peninsula south of Mawlamyine, with a seafront setting and a grave marker for the wife of the lexicographer Adoniram Judson, who died here in 1826.
