Thanbyuzayat
Myanmar (Burma)
Thanbyuzayat, a town in Mon State in southeastern Myanmar, is best known as the starting point of the Death Railway — the World War II rail line built southward through jungle by forced labour under Japanese command, at enormous human cost. A Commonwealth war cemetery on the edge of town holds Allied soldiers who died during that construction. The town also sits within reach of Kyaikkhamee Pagoda, Setse Beach, and the Waekali natural hot springs.
