Løgstør
Denmark
This fjord town on Limfjorden in northern Denmark, Løgstør is known for Frederik VII's Canal, built between 1856 and 1861 to open the shallow waters west of town to navigation, and for a lighthouse at Løgstør Grunde considered one of the most distinctive in Denmark. The 19th-century centre, built for fishermen and sailors, includes the former home of author and poet Johan Skjoldborg, who lived there until his death in 1936. The Limfjord Museum covers local fishing, seafaring, and boat-building history, and guided boat trips on the canal are available.
