Le Pont d'Arc
Ardèche · France
This natural stone arch spanning the Ardèche river in southern France, where the river broke through a narrow escarpment to create an opening roughly 59 metres wide. It marks the entrance to the Ardèche Canyon, sits within a national nature reserve, and has been a classified natural site since 1931. The area is a popular base for canoeing and kayaking, and the nearby Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc Cave holds some of the earliest known Paleolithic paintings, around 30,000 years old.
