Claiming the title of Britain's smallest town — a distinction it contests with Fordwich in Kent — Llanwrtyd Wells sits on the Afon Irfon in Powys, Wales, close to the pass between the Tywi and Irfon valleys and within reach of the upland terrain known as the Desert of Wales.
