Luanshya
Zambia
Founded after prospector William Collier discovered copper ore beneath a fallen roan antelope on the Luanshya River, this Copperbelt city in Zambia carries an unusually specific origin story. The mining company that followed was named Roan Antelope Copper Mines Ltd, and the town earned a reputation in the 1960s as the "Garden Town of the Copperbelt" for its public parks. The Roan Antelope Rugby Club once held a Guinness World Record for the tallest rugby posts in the world.
