This small Chilean town where the Maullín River meets the Pacific coast, Maullín sits at the southwestern edge of Llanquihue Province in the Los Lagos Region, bordering the Chacao Channel to the south. Its name derives from the Mapuche word for "waterfall" or "rain cascade." Along with neighbouring Calbuco, it holds some of the oldest urban settlements in the province, dating to the early 17th century, and shares historical ties with the Chiloé archipelago.
