Mezica
Slovenia
Little Slovenian town in the Carinthian mountains near the Austrian border, Mežica grew up around a lead and zinc mine beneath Mount Peca that operated from 1665 until 1994. The former mine is now open for tourist visits, with a mining museum housed in the old administrative building. The town sits at the confluence of the Meža River and the Šumec stream, with ski slopes on the nearby hillsides used mainly by recreational skiers.
