Milas

Ancient Caria's first capital and later seat of the medieval Menteşe beylik, Milas is a historically dense town in southwest Turkey with more than two dozen archaeological sites across its district. The nearby Mausoleum of Hecatomnus is on UNESCO's tentative World Heritage list. The town sits at the foot of Mount Sodra, whose marble quarries have been worked since antiquity, and the district takes in coastline along two gulfs as well as the shores of Lake Bafa. Milas carpets are internationally recognised.
