Milazzo
Messina · Italy
Founded by ancient Greeks around 716 BC, Milazzo is a Sicilian town on the north coast with a walkable centre dense with historic churches, cafés, and scenic viewpoints over the sea. The town played a role in the First Punic War in 260 BC and saw Garibaldi's red shirts fight here in July 1860 during the Expedition of the Thousand. It also serves as the main departure point for ferries to the Aeolian Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage site in the wider region.
