Montbéliard
Doubs · France
Montbéliard, in eastern France's Doubs department near the Swiss border and the Jura massif, is known across France for its Christmas market and carries the Ville d'Art et d'Histoire label. The town was a Württemberg principality for over 700 years before joining France in 1793, a history visible in the Château des ducs de Wurtemberg that still dominates the skyline. It is also the birthplace of the Peugeot automobile and home to the Montbéliarde cattle breed and the saucisse de Montbéliard.
