Myitkyina
Myanmar (Burma)
Sitting on the west bank of the Ayeyarwady River, Myitkyina is the capital of Kachin State and Myanmar's northernmost river port and railway terminus. The city's Burmese name means "near the big river," and the Ayeyarwady begins to take shape just upstream, where the Mali and N'mai rivers meet at the confluence known as Myit-son. Home to a mix of Bamar, Kachin, and ethnic Indian communities, it is a city in northern Myanmar with mountains visible from its riverside setting.
