Naarden
Netherlands
Naarden's 17th-century star-shaped fortifications, among the best preserved in Europe, encircle a walkable historic town centre in the Gooi region of North Holland, around 15 km east of Amsterdam. The fortifications are a striking sight from above, and the town within them retains its historic character, with cafés and listed buildings concentrated in a compact, walkable area beside the water.
