Nawalapitiya

A town on the banks of the Mahaweli Ganga in Sri Lanka's Kandy District, Nawalapitiya developed as a British colonial centre of coffee production and is the birthplace of M. G. Ramachandran, the Tamil cinema actor who later became chief minister of Tamil Nadu. The town sits in highland terrain, a short distance from Kandy, with UNESCO World Heritage sites in the wider region.
