Nilaveli
Sri Lanka
Coastal resort town northwest of Trincomalee in northeastern Sri Lanka, Nilaveli draws visitors to its beach and to Pigeon Island National Park, one of the region's two marine national parks, situated just off the coast and known for its coral, reef fish, and biodiversity. Tourism declined after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and the Sri Lankan Civil War but has recovered since 2010, and the town now supports a café and restaurant scene alongside its beach appeal.
