Nykobing Falster
Denmark
An old market town on the island of Falster in southern Denmark, Nykøbing Falster has a compact walkable centre with cafés and a pedestrian street network whose main square dates to the medieval period. The town's main attraction is the Middelaldercentret, an interactive centre focused on Danish life around 1400, while the Klosterkirken — completed around 1500 — and a 1908 water tower, the country's first reinforced-concrete building, add to the historic fabric. The Frederick IX Bridge connects the town across the Guldborgsund strait to the island of Lolland.
