Oskarshamn
Sweden
Compact coastal town on the Baltic Sea in southeastern Sweden, Oskarshamn has a walkable centre with cafés and restaurants close to the water. Founded as a fishing settlement called Döderhultsvik, it became a town in 1856 under its current name. Ferries run from here to both Öland and Gotland, making it a practical base for island travel, while major employers including a nuclear power plant and a Scania facility give it a working industrial character alongside its waterfront.
