Palu

A town in eastern Turkey's Elazığ Province set on the banks of the Murat River, Palu carries a history stretching back to around 2000 BCE and served at different points as the capital of the ancient Armenian region of Balabitene and later of the Kurdish Emirate of Palu. The town was relocated to its current riverside site in the early 20th century, with mountains rising in the surrounding terrain.
