Çayönü
Diyarbakir · Türkiye
Çayönü Tepesi is a Pre-Pottery Neolithic settlement in Diyarbakır Province where excavations have traced the continuous transition from hunter-gatherer life to farming and animal husbandry, making it one of the more extensively dug sites of its era. Active from around 8,630 to 6,800 BC, it sits at the foot of the Taurus mountains near the Boğazçay, a tributary of the upper Tigris. Its monumental tradition connects it to Göbekli Tepe, though Çayönü used decorated stelae rather than the T-shaped pillars characteristic of that site.
