A modest hamlet on the south bank of the Mawddach estuary in Gwynedd, set within Snowdonia National Park amid mountain terrain. A Grade II listed toll bridge crosses the estuary here for light vehicles. The site also retains remnants of a former railway station, including a signal box. Boat trips up the river, once a long-running visitor attraction, were discontinued following a fatal accident in the late 1960s when an overcrowded pleasure boat struck the bridge.
