Playa Grande

Leatherback turtles nest on this Pacific coast beach in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, from October to March, drawing visitors to one of the species' major nesting sites within Las Baulas Marine National Park. The beach also has consistent surf breaks, making it a draw for surfers. Mangrove forests and estuaries border the area, with boat tours available, and the national parks of Rincón de la Vieja and Santa Rosa are within reach for hiking and wildlife spotting.
