Poggio Mirteto
Rieti · Italy
Little Tiber Valley town in Lazio's Rieti province, Poggio Mirteto sits on a knoll northeast of Rome amid wine country, with scenic views across the surrounding landscape and a central core of cafés and restaurants. Its cathedral, formerly the seat of its own bishops, is now the episcopal see of the Suburbicarian Diocese of Sabina-Poggio Mirteto. The town's name, recorded in an 1833 account, refers to the myrtle plants once abundant across its territory.
