Raahe
Finland
Founded in 1649 by Count Per Brahe the Younger, Raahe is a coastal town on Finland's Gulf of Bothnia shore with one of the country's best-preserved 19th-century wooden town centres. Old Raahe survived — and was partly reshaped after — a devastating 1810 fire, emerging with a Renaissance-inspired grid plan and a distinctive central square, Pekkatori, with closed corners. The town is also strongly associated with the Rautaruukki steel mill and with Finnish rules baseball through its Pattijoki team.
