This town in Iraqi Kurdistan's Sulaymaniyah Governorate with an unusual concentration of churches for its size and a compact central core of cafés and restaurants. Raniye is also known for its residents' prominent role in the 1991 Kurdish uprising against Ba'athist Iraq, and sits close to both mountains and water.
