Ravenstein
Netherlands
This heritage-dense fortified town on the River Maas in North Brabant, Ravenstein received city rights in 1380 and spent much of the 17th and 18th centuries as a Catholic enclave within the Dutch Republic, under the Duchy of Palatinate-Neuburg. Its compact historic centre holds a concentration of listed buildings within easy walking distance, and the town has a pocket-sized but real café and restaurant scene for its size.
