Riehen
Switzerland
Home to the Fondation Beyeler, widely regarded as Switzerland's most-visited art museum, Riehen is a prosperous town in the canton of Basel-Stadt, bordering the city of Basel. The privately owned gallery anchors a compact centre with cafés and restaurants, set among vineyards on the edge of the Rhine plain. Riehen also holds a toy museum and several parks, and carries a footnote in Swiss political history as the first municipality to elect a woman to office, in 1958.
